Frequently Asked Questions
+ What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused concentration that people enter into all the time when doing everyday activities like study, watch television, and listen to music.
+ What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the art and science of helping people make deliberate and positive changes in their neural pathways for the purpose of improved thinking, feeling, and behaviors by employing various methods designed to make changes at the subconscious level while in the trance state.
+ Why Is hypnotherapy so effective?
Hypnotherapy is a holistic (whole body, natural) complimentary health modality that can speed up the healing process and the drastically accelerate the time it takes for your mind to take on new beliefs and behavior patterns. The research today proves just how much our physical health is influenced by our emotions, thoughts and words. Emotional and physical trauma can cause blockages which, if left unresolved may lead to dis-ease and chronic PTSD, depression and anxiety within the body
The body stores emotions on a cellular level as a way of dealing with trauma. It can be challenging or even impossible to clear stressful emotions through purely modalities like talk therapy, EPT, EFT, or positive affirmations for several reasons. First, these modalities may not help you to identify the hidden subconscious blocks to change and healing. Second, they do nothing to help clients develop the new neural pathways to the fullest extent where thoughts and behaviors become automatic.
Modalities that do not help you to make deep and lasting changes in your automatic thoughts and behaviors may feel good at the time but they fall short of lasting change.
This is why you can have a great therapy or EPT session but you may feel like something is still missing or the new concepts and behaviors don’t last. With hypnotherapy, we can quickly identify the emotional cause of an issue that a person is experiencing. We can identify and overcome subconscious blocks and identify the root issue. Oftentimes, what comes up for you in a therapy or coaching session as contributors to a problem are very different than what will reveal itself in a hypnotherapy session.
+ How Many Sessions Before I See Results?
Everyone is unique and different but typically, compared to traditional therapy, hypnosis is considered to take a fraction of the time to clear problems. Most clients work with me in either a 3 month or 6 month strategy depending on your goals.
+ Do I Have to Be Local to Work With You?
I work with people worldwide. Virtual sessions are typical but in-person sessions can also be made available. Out of town clients are welcome to visit for a series of intensives. The City of Charleston, South Carolina has been voted by readers of Condé Nast Traveler as the Top City in the World Outside the United Kingdom and the number one Small City in the United States.
+ Do I Need Hypnosis or Coaching?
Real and lasting change occurs when there is congruence between the two levels of the mind, conscioius and subconscious. I use coaching, hypnosis, NLP and various other right brain problem solving tools interchangeably as we progress through your goals in whatever order will help to bring about the best and fastest results.
+ What is my personal time commitment?
My passion is BIG TRANSFORMATION! My intention is for you to be a more confident, healthy, successful and happy person. Typically, you and I commit to get you there in 3 to 6 months depending on your particular situation. For most people, this involves a weekly 45 minute call after the initial strategy session.
+ How is Stage Hypnosis Different from Clinical Hypnosis?
Stage hypnosis is real. People are volunteering to participate in the antics of the stage show as soon they raise their hand. You might notice that the hypnotist always starts with five to ten people and usually ends up working with one or two primary “performers” who are highly suggestible and amenable to the suggestions being given.
+ How is Hypnosis Different than Meditation?
Normally the mind is like a floodlight with your thoughts expanding out in many different directions. Hypnosis is where your mind is like a laser beam! Your thoughts are directed to a narrow set of ideas or thoughts to achieve a goal. Meditation is a quiet mind with no thinking.
+ Can Everyone Be Hypnotized?
Everyone enters a hypnotic state every day, several times per day. It’s that state you are in when you are watching TV, reading a good book, engrossed in a movie that makes you happy or sad, and while listening to music. It’s the state you are in when you are just waking up or just going to bed. The lightest state of hypnosis (Alpha) is achieved easily and feels like you are daydreaming. Deep hypnosis which is when your brain waves are resonating in Theta tends to feel more like a light dream state or sleep.
+ Do You Guarantee Results?
Few hypnotherapists and coaches can match my full time experience in the field of personal transformation. I build my reputation on getting results with clients and then those happy, satisfied clients referring others to me who are stuck and need help.
